Easyspace recently launched its pre-registration facility for the new .xxx sponsored top-level domain extension. Out of the hundreds of customers who have rushed to pre-register with us, 8 out of 10 are from outside of the online adult-entertainment industry.
Businesses and individuals have been able to register their interests for the new .xxx domain name registrations ahead of the launch of the .xxx pre-registrations facility with Easyspace.com and only 20% of those interests are from the sexually oriented adult industry.
Sarah Haran, Managing Director of Easyspace, said: “As we expected, the early indications are that non-adult industry businesses have realised the need to protect trademarks and brands in dot XXX. As an officially accredited registrar of the new domain we are encouraging businesses to pre-register with us so we can submit their claims to ICM Registry quickly and efficiently.”
As of end of July 2011, members of the Sponsored Community, those supplying products and services to adult industry, can secure “resolving” names and non-members of the Sponsored Community, companies or businesses, looking to protect their online brand presence in the .xxx space are able to pre-order “non-resolving” domains via Easyspace’s .xxx domain name pre-registration tool.
Registrations of the new .xxx will take place in a series of three controlled phases:
- Sunrise period 7th September – 28th October, 2011
- Sunrise AT (Adult Trademark) and Sunrise AD (Adult Domain / Grandfathering)
- Sunrise B
- Landrush, 8th November – 25th November, 2011
- General Availability 6th December, 2011
The Sunrise phase is aimed at members of the adult industry with verifiable trademarks or owners of exact matching domains in other IANA TLDs.
Sunrise B, also known as Block, is specifically aimed at non-adult industry trademark owners and other IP, Intellectual Property, holders who don’t wish to register their domain name and wish to block their domain name in .xxx.
Landrush is for members of the adult Sponsored Community but NOT on a first come, first served basis. There are no qualification requirements for this phase. Applications for competing names will go to auction.
Go live period is designated for members of the adult Sponsored Community to register regular, “resolving” domain names on a first come, first served basis without pre-existing rights or qualifications unlike in the previous phases. Non-members of the Sponsored community can also pre-register ‘non-resolving’ names during this phase.

.xxx domain names can be pre-ordered via Easyspace’s pre-registration tool prior to the launch of the Sunrise period on 7th September 2011 and are subject to Terms and Conditions.
