Windows or Linux hosting?
You will continually hear debates from all types of customers (not just Easyspace!) about which Operating system is best for web hosting. In our opinion, it largely comes down to what you want to do with your shared hosting package. If your plan is to run Php, Pearl or MySQL then Linux is the better option. If your preference is to run ASP, MS SQL or any other windows based scripting, then Windows is best.
Various methods exist to allow Windows Servers to run Linux based scripts, and to allow Linux Servers to run Windows based scripts. However, there are obvious compatibility benefits to running scripts on matching operating systems i.e. Linux on Linux, Windows on Windows. Base your Linux versus Windows decision on how you plan on building your website. If you’re still not sure, contact us.
