There are many benefits; however one of the most important benefits of the .xxx domain name extension is to protect children from adult-content websites
Members of the Sponsored Community - online adult entertainment industry and those supplying products or services should consider registering domain names with the .xxx extension.
Non members, individuals and entities, of the Sponsored Community should also consider registering non-resolving .xxx domain names (Defensive Registrations) if they are concerned about potential abusive registration or IP (Intellectual Property) protection.
.xxx is an abbreviation for adult entertainment; domains with .xxx extension are instantly recognizable as adult relevant.
Numerous Ultra-premium generic .xxx sites will not be available for sale; instead they will be used as directory sites to promote developed .xxx sites.
With over 195,000 applications for .xxx domains, ICM Registry already proved the wealth of opportunity for .xxx.
.xxx websites will be promoted as safe and trustworthy: they will be labelled and verified.
Non-sponsored community IP Holders can apply to reserve names from registration without ongoing fees during Sunrise period
$10 from each domain per year will be donated to the International Foundation for Online Responsibility (IFFOR). IFFOR is a non-profit foundation found by ICM Registry tasked with setting the policies for .xxx domains - www.iffor.org

General Availability Phase
£59.99
The .xxx domain is a sponsored Top Level Domain (sTLD) specifically intended for those operating within the adult entertainment industry (Sponsored Community).
The Sunrise period starts on the 7th September 2011.
Four (4) phases will be available for the registration of .xxx domain names. Sunrise A and B, Landrush and General Availability.
Sunrise AT Period from £199.99
Sunrise AD Period from £139.99
Sunrise B Period from £189.99
Landrush Period from £139.99
General Availability Period from £79.99 Includes £20.00 pre registration fee
These periods are aimed at applicants from within the Sponsored Community. The Sunrise period will run for approximately 30 days. The two types of Sunrise A are detailed below...
This period is aimed at sunrise applicants outside of the Sponsored Community who are owners of a qualifying trademark.
These trademark holders will be looking to reserve names in order to ensure they are not registered as domain names by others.
At the close of sunrise period the domain(s) will be reserved from registration (as long as there is not a conflicting application from Sunrise A).
The domain will be removed from the pool of names available for future registration.
The domain name(s) will resolve to a standard info page indicating the status of the domain(s) and that it is not available for registration.
The Landrush period will begin on the 24th October 2011 and will last for approximately 10 days.
This period is only for members of the Sponsored Community, apart from being members of the Sponsored Community there are no other qualification requirements.
General Availability will begin on the 6th December 2011.
Registrations will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Domains registered by a member of the Sponsored Community will resolve, only if they have been authenticated, non-members domains will not resolve.
Members of the Sponsored Community (adult entertainment individuals or companies and those supplying products or services to adult industry) are eligible to register "resolving" domain names in .xxx. Non-members of the Sponsored Community may register "non-resolving" domain names if they are concerned about potential abusive registration or Intellectual Property protection.
You can apply for as many domains as you wish; however please ensure that if you apply during either the sunrise or landrush phase that you ensure you can meet the requirements.
An exact match is required with reasonable rules for special character transcription.
For the Sunrise A period - Grandfathering phase, only domain names that have been registered prior to February 2010 will qualify.
All domains submitted during this phase must be in active bona fide use with an eligible website or service that comports with definitions of the Sponsored Community.
An active bona fide use with an eligible website or service will exclude domain names primarily used for parking, link farming or forwarding to a site operated by a party other than the applicant or where the registry believes the registration has been made primarily for the purpose of a bad faith attempt to qualify under the Sunrise allocation policy.
The Grandfathering domain name will be required to be an Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) TLD registered at the first applicable level that can normally be registered with commercial providers of registration services in the TLD.
Priority allocation will be given to Sponsored Community members who hold domains that were registered before 1 February 2010 (to prevent gaming) in other ICANN approved Internet extensions. These applications will need to be received before the 7th September 2011.
If more than one valid application is received during the Sunrise A or Landrush phase, the domain name will be entered into an auction and only the qualified applicants will be invited to bid. The auction will be operated by Pool.com on behalf of the ICM registry. Easyspace will not control or have any say in this auction.
Registry operators are obligated to set aside a number of domain names designated by ICANN. In addition, ICM registry set aside certain geographic and culturally significant names, as well as a number of names to be allocated by a request-for-proposals process or other methods.
No, it's not possible to offer Whois lookup, as no names have been allocated yet. Simply pre-register the desirable domain name and we will notify you in due course.
Each and every registrant will need to be verified and signed up to the Sponsored Community before the domain name will be permitted to "resolve" and therefore operate. Those who don't validate will be unable to "resolve" their domains in the traditional way.
As long as the domain name has not already been registered, future brand owners will be able to register "non-resolving" names during the General Availability phase.
As there can be various applicants for the same domain name during various phases, Easyspace does not accept any liability if the .xxx domain name(s) cannot be registered for any reason, due to the manual nature of checks, refunds will not be given.
Due to the high level of manual assistance required in the Sunrise and Landrush periods we cannot offer refunds should your application be unsuccessful. If you apply during pre registration for General Availability and are not successful we will refund your payment minus a £20 administration fee.
Yes, the there is the 'rapid evaluation service', known as RES, which will deal with certain complaints, usually within 48 hours. There are also the ICANN Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP); and the Charter Eligibility Dispute Resolution Policy (CEDRP).
IFFOR is a Non-Profit Foundation that is tasked with setting some of the policies for dot-xxx domains. IFFOR is independent from the ICM registry and is funded through a contract with the ICM to the tune of $10 per registration per year.
The IFFOR Policy Council will comprise of five adult industry representatives from around the world. The representatives will focus on: privacy and security; free speech; and child protection.
The adult industry has majority representation. The policies guidelines are strictly organised in the IFFOR charter (available www.iffor.org) and no policy can be implemented that is outside the charter.
The Landrush period is only for members of the Adult Sponsored Community who don't qualify for the Sunrise A period but do wish to secure their desirable .xxx domain name.
Apart from being a member of the Adult Sponsored Community, there are no Trademarks or pre-ownership rights requirements during this Landrush period.
This phase is not available on a first-come, first-serve basis and domain names with a single application will be automatically allocated; however domains with more than one application will be entered into an auction.
The Sunrise AT period is available for Trademark owners and other IP holders from within the Adult Sponsored Community. It begins on the 7th of September 2011 and runs through till the 28th October 2011.
The Sunrise AD period is available for members of the Adult community who already own and operate an existing exact matching domain name in another gTLD or ccTLD. It begins on the 7th of September 2011 and runs through till the 28th October 2011.
The Sunrise B period is specifically designed for Trademark owners and other IP holders from outside the Sponsored Community who do not wish to register any domains with an .xxx extension, but would like to block or protect their Trademarks from being registered by others.
Domain names registered during the Sunrise B period will not result in a conventional resolving domain name. Names successfully secured during this phase will resolve to a standard plain page, indicating that the domain name have been reserved from use through the ICM rights protection program.
This is a one off payment that will protect the Trademark into the future.
